Dolomites Tour ’22

Delightful Driving’s most iconic tour took place again on this hot June 2022. Participants from all over Europe gathered in South Tyrol as the starting point for a long weekend that provided the opportunity to discover a multitude of fascinating places.

Saturday:

The departure was slightly traumatic, but fortunately it was only a brief interlude in what were three fantastic days. The beauty of the Sella and Pordoi Passes was partially ruined by the amount of traffic on the route due to the hordes of tourists that prevented us from enjoying ourselves the way we had hoped.
After descending the Pordoi, we headed towards the Fedaia pass, where we stopped for a drink at the iconic dam. Nico took the chance to fly his drone and take pictures of cars and the beautiful scenery . After a quick descent of the Fedaia totally free of traffic, we reached the beautiful Giau pass, which was the last stop before a well-deserved lunch at Baita Resch.
Refreshed by lunch, we set off again to return to base via the Falzarego pass, followed by the splendid descent to Arabba, which gave us a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.
A snack was served in Utia de Borz, which allowed us to tackle the subsequent Passo delle Erbe with more peace and quiet and a well-deserved rest.
Back to the hotel in the late afternoon, but still there was the ascent to the Sella Pass for 4 daredevils who were able to enjoy the sunset. Suggestion for everybody: never give up!!!

Sunday

“Never give up” was a well-received piece of advice, since during breakfast we found out that 3 participants had woken up at 4:30 a.m. to go and watch the sunrise at the Sella Pass.
Ready to go, we set off towards the beautiful Alpe di Siusi and the subsequent Nigra Pass. The very short stop due to time constraints was made above Lake Carezza.
Back on the road for lunch, we drove over the Mendola pass where we were lucky: a police patrol that was stationed at the hairpin bends above the rocks was coming down to eat! Well done, gentlemen. We arrived at the clearing in the woods of the Hotel Falchetto and enjoyed some delicious local dishes.
We quickly set off again down the Palade pass and headed for the go-kart track in Vadena, where we were able to release our thirst for speed in complete safety and end a memorable day.

Monday

The last day arrived very quickly thanks to an increasingly united and in tune group that allowed us to enjoy this last half-day as well. An adventurous morning with a climb towards Collalbo on a small road that was being resurfaced and which allowed us to test the off-road capabilities of our cars. A quick pit stop to refill one of our cars with oil (guess which car?) and we found ourselves climbing the slopes of the Pennes Pass, the site of our group photo!
We then continued to climb the Giovo pass and concluded the tour with lunch at the Hotel Innerwalten.
