Our 10 favourite passes in the Dolomites

Our 10 favourite passes in the Dolomites

The Dolomites are a paradise for winding roads and we went to discover the best dolomites passes.

Here the list of our 10 favourite passes in the Dolomites:

1. Gardena

The Gardena pass is the right mix of slope and curves. The route and the summits offer the finest alpine panoramas, including the Sassolungo, the Sella and the Pizes de Cir peaks. The curvy route ensures plenty of riding fun:
Curves and hairpin bends in the east and a wonderfully scenic ridge in the west.

2. Sella

The Sella pass climbing is the perfect combination between the pleasure of driving and admiring an increasingly fascinating landscape. A series of hairpin bends take us below the Sasso Lungo and on the opposite side we discover the imposing Sella group studded with high sharp spires.

3. Giau

Breathtaking views, curves and hairpin bends, ascents and descents in a landscape where it is also difficult to distinguish the rock chains we are going to meet: the closest are the Cinque Torri on the left and the Croda de Lago on the right.
The first stretch is decidedly more linear compared to a second more tortuous part.

4. Passo delle Erbe

With a maximum gradient of up to 10%, the route is certainly one of the most scenic of all the Dolomites: the valleys and the mountains all around. It offers a beautiful stop with a fantastic view of the Odle group (famous mountain massif of the Dolomites)

5. San Pellegrino

While the west ramp coming from Moena to the top of the hill is almost straight, the sweeping and steeper east ramp makes for much more fun. We recommend to start from Falcade. Scenically the route has rather little to offer in comparison with it’s neighbors, but the drive won’t let you go home disappointed.

6. Pordoi

Climbing gently for a few kilometres, then past the small and characteristic church of San Floriano the slope increases. A few kilometers and you pass the junction for the Sella Pass, from there on a road all curves that offers an extraordinary panorama of the Sella and Marmolada Groups.

7. Rolle

The beautiful road allows you to admire the peak of the Cimon della Pala, with its splendid little alpine church.
The Rolle pass is surrounded by the Pale di San Martino, the largest mountain group in the Dolomites.

8. Falzarego

Highlight of the Great Dolomite Road that connects the towns of Andraz and Cortina d’Ampezzo. An absolutely undemanding climb for us, but one that will remain in our minds for the fascinating alpine landscapes that are surrounding the pass.

9. Campolongo

Compared to the other passes of the Sellaronda, popular among motorcyclists, the Campolongo offers a little less riding pleasure, because the pass ramps are less spectacular than the ramp of the Pordoi Pass or the Sella Pass. But from a scenic point of view, the route is well worth the effort.

10. Fedaia

Continuous curves that allow you to travel at high speed. The long straight of Malga Ciapela 3 km long with a constant pandence of over 12%.
Beautiful pass at the bottom of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites. It is known for the beautiful Lago Fedaia.
