Fiat 124 Spider: Visiting its sporty cousins.

Fiat 124 Spider: Visiting its sporty cousins.

We have been thinking for a while about visiting the Historic Museum of Alfa Romeo. We liked the idea of taking the Alfa 4C to his sporting ancestors. So we decided to ask FCA if they would support this plan and borrow us a 4C for the trip. It turned out that the 4C was already booked out but we were offered to drive her legitimate cousin, the Fiat 124 Spider instead.

We met with a wonderful snow white 124 Spider Lusso in Frankfurt and we didn’t hesitate for a second: The roof went down and off we went.

ON THE TRACES OF AROSA CLASSIC

Soon after we took off, we crossed the Swiss border and we started to look for a place to stop for the night to spare the drive on the mountain passes for the morning after.

The Hotels in a 30 mile radius turned out to be surprisingly expensive, even for Swiss standards, but we soon found out that Arosa Classic was on this weekend.  One second later we were making a beeline towards Arosa.

No way we would miss to try out Ms Spider on the fantastic 76 curves road from Langwies to Arosa that transforms the little town into the Swiss Monaco for the international race weekend.

When we arrived on top we enjoyed a Piadina in a Restaurant and we went to look for the spectacular cars that we saw meanwhile on the insta-stories of classic driver.

You don’t get to see everyday a Mercedes 300 SL gullwings in full racing livery and lots of other exotic machinery. Unfortunately only a few cars were to be seen in the streets and around the Hotels. So we left to reach our affordable and wonderful Hotel in Thusis.

In the morning the Cafe Gyger was already packed of the morning people having coffee. After enjoying some Swiss cheese for breakfast we left to reach the Alfa Museum.

In Switzerland we cruised on the country road with the roof open and the air in our hair. It was pleasant to enjoy the sun and the music that accompanied us along the way.

SAN BERNARDINO: LANDING ON THE MOON

Getting closer to San Bernardino you can slowly notice the swiss lively green nature fading away.

It feels like landing on the moon, even if we haven’t experienced that yet…

The barren rocks are the perfect background for this road. The nice looking Italian styled girl – talking about the car – can finally give her best on the San Berardino pass curves.

There we go – Always hitting the pedal of the gas early enough to spool the turbo to get fired out of the corners like a cannonball.

It took me some corners to understand how to make the best use of the turbo engine.

On the top of the Pass it was time for coffee stop. What else?

ALFA MUSEUM

Arrived at the Alfa Museum the first thing we did was enjoying some delicious Italian food, and of course another coffee – this time an espresso!

The Museum tour started – would you believe it – with the temporary exhibition about the 4C.

The exposition is divided in 3 different areas or themes:

  • Timeline : showing the cars that played an important role in the Brand history, As the Giulia and the Giulietta
  • Beauty: Giulia TI super
  • Speed & Spectacular:Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale – even if it already beats the bellezza category as well.

As the cars did also the architecture of the Museum impressed us.

Therefore, before leaving we took a memory picture in front of the main entrance and we were ready to hit the road again to get back to Frankfurt.

On the way we took the opportunity to visit Sighignola and admire the view of the lake from the top.

With all the beautiful memories running through our head like a infinite loop we arrived to destination. Our short Fiat 124 experience came to an end but we are already looking forward to the next one.
